Do you know who bath and groom your pet?
Miriam and Pat Wyrick, Pet Groomers
“Miriam and Pat are groomers hard to find these days. Not many groomers would agree to bath and groom aggressive cats and dogs, bulldogs, or those which have just been rescued from the streets. But you would never see Miriam and Pat turning down any pet. No matter the size, breed, or personality of the animal. If the groomer doesn’t know how to communicate with a pet, he might turn him off to the grooming process. On the contrary, Miriam and Pat know how to communicate with a pet to put him at ease…”
Miriam started grooming when she had her own dog, later she started bathing and grooming pets of her friends and neighbors back in Kansas in 1985. Eventually Miriam started charging in order to cover the cost of shampoo and grooming tools. When the time came to choose a career it was just natural that she took a job as a groomer in the local veterinarian’s office. Having grown a big number of happy clientele she would continue working as a private groomer on the weekends and evenings. In the early 2000’s Miriam met Pat. Pat liked to hang out around Miriam. Pat learnt grooming while watching Miriam and helping her. Pat used to work as a photographer, and basically became Miriam’s part-time assistant and student. Being adventurous people by nature, in their free time Pat and Miriam used to take flying classes. Their love for cats and dream that one day there’ll be no homeless cats on the streets motivated them to run a cat rescue in Kansas. Ultimately, Pat was so much into both Miriam and pets that he quit his job as a photographer. Later Pat’s father noticed that Pat and Miriam made a great team as pet groomers and advised them to open their own Pet Groomer’s shop.
New beginning with old passion in Florida
Like many Americans, Pat and Miriam used to vacation in Florida quite often. Finally in 2009 when housing market went down they made a big move and relocated to Sun Shine state Florida. They first joined a local veterinarian clinic, but shortly joined Animal Wellness Clinic of Tamarac in December 2009. At the same time Miriam worked in another veterinarian clinic in Boca Raton. Today Pat and Miriam own a private Pet Groomer shop, and continue grooming pets of our veterinary clinic, and serving pet owners in Hialeah, and neighboring community. Several days a week Pat plays in several local bands as a base player from favorite oldies to hard Rock. Up-to-date Miriam’s love for nature makes her run and go camping for Appalachian Trail. Both Pat and Miriam also enjoy beaching and going to gym. Apparently their adventurous and courageous spirit is what brought them to Shark Valley (a place where many people would hesitate to go!), and not once, but several times (!). In Shark Valley they ride 14 miles on bicycle in a valley full of alligators, birds, and other wildlife. When asked when you were most proud of the work that you do, Miriam and Pat said: “Definitely, the case with a rescued cat in Kansas. The cat was listed as black, and was a bit sick. After washing her three times we realized the cat was actually orange and blonde, not black. It seemed the cat probably fall into motor oil. Later vets told us, the cat tried to lick himself to clean the coat and ingested toxins. And that’s what made him sick. Not long after that, the cat recovered and was happily adopted”.
Good job! Keep it up, Miriam & Pat! They live with daughter Amie, Miriam’s mother Joane, mix lab Luna, domestic short haired cat Mortisha, and tuxedo Blink in their family house in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
